Author Guidelines

Revista Arquivos Catarinenses de Medicina, the scientific journal of Associação Catarinense de Medicina, publishes original articles, update and review articles, as well as case reports and case studies.

Basic Requirements

  • Articles must follow the standards described here strictly. Works that do not meet them are rejected at the initial screening.
  • Reviews and case reports may not use references older than 10 years, except where a senior author provides justification.
  • Decisions by the editorial board and the reviewers are final, with no possibility of appeal.
  • The final decision rests with the reviewers and the Editorial Board, under double-blind review.
  • Publication follows the chronological order of acceptance.
  • Layout cost: the responsibility of the authors once the article is approved.
  • A maximum of 6 authors, except for work of exceptional complexity.

Requested corrections must be returned within 15 days.

Article Publication Fee

A fee of R$ 250.00 is charged to non-members for the publication of accepted articles. Members receive a 50% discount on the fee. The amount goes towards maintaining the journal, covering editorial costs and the scientific publishing process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

On submitting, the author declares that:

  1. The article is original, unpublished and not under consideration by another journal.
  2. All authors approve the final version.
  3. Copyright will be transferred to the journal should the article be published.
  4. The editorial decisions are accepted, including rejection.

In addition:

  • The file must be in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • The text must follow the journal's standards and the Vancouver reference style.
  • For sections with peer review, blind review must be ensured.

Guidelines for Preparing the Manuscript

General Formatting

  • Word, Times New Roman 11, 1.5 line spacing, justified text.
  • Maximum length:
    • Original articles: 15 pages
    • Reviews and update articles: 15 pages
    • Case reports: 5 pages

Structure of the Manuscript

  1. Title page: title in Portuguese and English, names and affiliations, academic degrees (as a footnote), e-mail addresses, city/state/country, funding sources.
  2. Abstract in Portuguese (up to 250 words) + descriptors (max. 5).
  3. Abstract in English + keywords.
  4. Introduction
  5. Methods / Methodological Procedures
  6. Results / Body of the Research
  7. Discussion / Comments
  8. Conclusion / Final Remarks
  9. References (up to 50; no older than 10 years; Vancouver style).
  10. Tables, charts and figures according to the standards (IBGE/NBR 14724).

Specific Elements

  • Tables: numbered, with a clear title, notes in the footer, IBGE standard.
  • Charts: closed sides, textual structure.
  • Figures: numbered and captioned; graphs in black and white only; photographs without patient identification (consent required).
  • Abbreviations: avoid them; give the full form at first mention; do not use them in titles or abstracts.

Guidelines by Article Type

Review and Update Articles

  • They follow the same format as original articles.
  • Max. 15 pages.

Case Reports

  • Brief introduction, presentation of the case and discussion against the literature.
  • Max. 4 to 5 pages.
  • References must observe the 10-year limit.

Abstracts of Dissertations and Theses

  • Accepted according to the general standards of the journal.

Before submitting your article, make sure you have included:

  • A complete title page
  • Abstract in Portuguese and English with descriptors
  • Introduction, methods, results and discussion
  • Information on approval by a Research Ethics Committee
  • References in Vancouver style
  • Tables, graphs and figures numbered and captioned

Copyright Notice

On submitting, the author declares the originality and exclusivity of the work, that all co-authors are aware of it, that copyright is transferred should the work be published, and that the editorial decisions are accepted without the possibility of appeal.

Privacy Statement

Personal information (names and e-mail addresses) is used exclusively for the services of this journal and will not be passed on to third parties.
