The Role of the Scientific Reviewer
Scientific reviewers play an essential part in ensuring the quality, the credibility and the academic rigour of Revista Científica Arquivos Catarinenses de Medicina, published by ACM.

Requirements to Become a Reviewer
To join the ACM body of reviewers, the professional must meet the following criteria:
- A higher education degree in the health field, preferably Medicine.
- An academic qualification (specialisation, master's or doctorate) or proven experience in scientific research.
- Professional or academic activity aligned with the subject areas of the journal.
- Knowledge of scientific methodology, critical analysis of articles and good research practice.
- Clear communication, in order to give authors constructive and well-structured feedback.
- Ethical commitment, ensuring confidentiality and impartiality throughout the process.
- Availability to meet the deadlines set by the editorial team.
Stages of the Review Process
The review process of Revista Científica Arquivos Catarinenses de Medicina, published by ACM, follows peer review standards and has a structured workflow with defined deadlines to ensure editorial speed and efficiency.
1. Submission and Initial Screening
The editorial team carries out a preliminary analysis to check compliance with the standards, the relevance of the subject and the originality of the manuscript.
2. Assignment of Reviewers

Once the assignment is accepted, the reviewer has:
- Deadline to complete the review: 7 days.
During that period, the reviewer assesses:
- Clarity of the writing;
- Relevance and topicality of the subject;
- Methodological soundness;
- Quality of the data analysis;
- Appropriateness of the conclusions;
- Originality and scientific contribution.
4. Submitting the Review
The reviewer records a complete review, with a recommendation to accept, revise or reject, along with structured comments to guide the authors.
5. Revision by the Authors
When revisions are requested, the authors must send the new version of the manuscript within:
- 7 days for revision and resubmission.
6. A Further Round of Review (when required)
After resubmission, the manuscript may return to the reviewer for further analysis, following the same deadlines described above.
7. Copyediting and Production
After final approval:
- Deadline for production and final adjustments: 7 days.
8. Decision and Publication
Once the previous stages are complete, the editorial team makes the final decision and sends the article for publication.

To ensure speed and clarity at every stage of the editorial process, communication between the journal team, the reviewers and the authors takes place primarily by e-mail. Every relevant action in the review workflow generates automatic notifications, allowing transparent, real-time follow-up.
Ethical Commitment
ACM reviewers must act with integrity, absolute confidentiality and no conflicts of interest. An impartial analysis is essential, as it supports the scientific credibility of the journal and upholds responsible scientific communication.
