Abstract

The carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the homonymous tunnel at wrist, constituting the most frequent site of nerve compression in the upper limb (UL). In advanced and severe cases, it produces an atrophy of the thenar eminence musculature, causing the loss of thumb opposition. In these cases, releasing only the nerve, may not be enough to recover thumb function, so we can apply the use of tendon transfers, within them, opponentplasties. There are several techniques described, including the Camitz technique, which consists of transferring the palmaris minor tendon with an extension of the palmar aponeurosis, inserting it into the radial insertion of the abductor pollicis brevis. These can be achieved in the same surgical opportunity as the release of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel, using even  the same approach.
