USE OF REVERSE MUSTARDÉ FLAP FOR LOWER EYELID RECONSTRUCTION
Keywords:
Eyelids, Surgical Flaps, Facial InjuriesAbstract
Lower eyelid injuries are a challenge in surgical practice due to the bilamellar anatomy of the eyelids with their anterior cutaneous and posterior mucosal linings interspersed with the tarsal cartilaginous structure at the level of the palpebral border, all stabilized by the medial and lateral canthal ligaments and the intimacy with the lacrimal structures. An extensive traumatic skin laceration in a 41 years old man on his left lower eyelid is presented. Reconstruction was performed with a reverse Mustardé flap, covered by an oral mucosa graft and fixed to the pericranium of the malar prominence and lateral orbital rim. The reconstruction of the patient's left lower eyelid was adequate both from an anatomical and physiological point of view, restoring the stability of the anatomical unit.
