Abstract

Breast reconstruction after a mastectomy procedure can be given a wide variety of reconstructive modalities that should be discussed with patients when reconstruction is an option. The use of the latissimus dorsi flap, due to its many benefits, has remained an excellent option considered by the plastic surgeon. This series aims to present a retrospective analysis of 50 patients operated on with this autologous reconstruction modality. The main indications found for surgery were complications related to previous reconstruction with the use of breast implant alone, considering that 43% of patients were exposed to radiotherapy. In addition, the most frequent complication was seroma, an easily manageable morbidity with low postoperative risk. Due to its versatility of use and low risk of complications, therefore, the latissimus dorsi flap is a very important option for reconstructive surgery for breast cancer.
