INFRAMAMMARY FOLD AS ANATOMICAL REFERENTIAL TO LATISSIMUS DORSI MYOCCUTANEOUS FLAP PLACEMENT IN BREAST RECONSTRUCTION
Keywords:
Myocutaneous Flap, Breast Reconstruction, AnatomyAbstract
The inframammary fold is a defining element in the shape and structure of the female breast. The incidence of breast cancer arising in the IMF is small and has been reported to be less than 2%. It should be preserved whenever possible in ablative procedures and recreated accurately when the breast is reconstructed after mastectomy. The latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap skin paddle placement horizontally along the inframammary fold plays a critical role in optimizing aesthetic outcomes.
