Abstract

The incidence of breast cancer has been rising. The evolution of treatments has improved survival rates, highlighting breast reconstruction as essential. Data indicate that only 10% of women undergoing mastectomy in Brazil have received reconstruction. Reconstruction can be immediate or delayed: immediate reconstruction offers better aesthetic results but may increase the risk of complications, such as necrosis and deterioration of skin quality in cases of radiotherapy. Delayed reconstruction allows for safer planning. The TRAM flap can cause abdominal wall weakness and an increased risk of hernias; however, in this series of cases, it was a viable option where microsurgery is not available. The patients achieved good aesthetic results, bodily harmony, and no complications. In a teaching hospital focused on SUS, expanding the use of autologous flaps could increase the number of breast reconstructions and reduce the psychosocial impact, offering better outcomes in fewer procedures.
