Abstract

Introduction: extensive scalp injuries are a challenge in plastic surgery, especially in the context of trauma. The management of these injuries has aesthetic, social and psychological impact and is important to prevent infections. Surgical treatment options include grafts, local and free flaps, and tissue expanders. The use of elastic suture in the scalp continues to be an effective option and poorly described in the literature. Case Report: patient with extensive traumatic injury to the scalp after a car accident. The treatment was initially conservative, with later debridement of devitalized tissue and implementation of elastic suture for scalp closure in occipital and right parietal area. Adequate closure of the wound was obtained with coverage by the scalp and preservation of the capillary follicular structure. Discussion: The elastic suture also allows the preservation of the hair follicular structure, representing a better aesthetic outcome with a less invasive method.
