INDICATION AND USEFULNESS OF SENTINEL LYMPH NODE BIOPSY IN CUTANEOUS MELANOMA – CASE SERIES

Introduction: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB) is a procedure developed to accurately stage patients with cutaneous melanoma through histopathological evaluation of the regional lymph node chain and provide prognostic information for patients in stages I and II, considering that the lymph node status is the strongest predictor of survival. Objectives: To analyze a series of cases of patients with cutaneous melanoma and sentinel lymph node biopsy indication in the last two years at the Melanoma Unit - Hospital de Clínicas Dr. Manuel Quintela - Montevideo, Uruguay, in order to review the indication and role of this technique, contributing to the local casuistry.
